The photos are powerful, but the story of the War Craft Line is worth telling. Brooklyn’s Uhuru Design created this unique furniture collection using local materials – and by local materials, we mean reclaimed wood from the USS North Carolina.
You can see the nautical, war-like theme throughout the entire line. Gently shaped end tables actually reference the huge diameter of the bullets shot from ship guns, and the mirrored room divider shows a silhouette of how huge this ammunition actually was. The high contrast multilevel table imitates Dazzle camouflage used on battleships, and a low modern rocking chair borrows from the USS North Carolina’s color scheme.
The War Craft Line is thought-provoking in many different ways depending on who is viewing each piece – this modern furniture collection may remind the audience of the sacrifice, the rich history, or the brutality of war. These rare furnishings surely inspire reflection and appreciation of what lies at their very core.
