This unique Bamboo House is one of the first to be Passivhaus certified in the Ile de France region, garnering praise for Karawitz Architecture’s functional yet attractive design.
It’s oriented to take full advantage of the sun, with an impressive wall of windows to the south and an array of solar cells on the roof. But what makes this home so unique is the clever way a traditional home shape has been reinvented by encasing the entire house in a second skin of bamboo panels that open and close over the exterior walls and windows. The bamboo protects the home from the hot sun during the summer months and helps insulate the house during cooler weather.
The inside is just as impressive, with thoughtful modern home design elements throughout, including walls made of large, prefabricated wood panels. Exposed duct work and metal elements give the home an industrial edge while the wood keeps things cozy.
