This gorgeous Urushi Lacquer Bathtub is part of the Furo Project by designers Ryu Kosaka and Yukio Hashimoto, a project with the aim to spread the appreciation for hot baths as more than just a routine but as a way to relax and connect.
The breathtaking sheen comes from the meticulous application of a natural lacquer that comes from the sap of the urushi tree. This process can take days or months depending on the size of the object – this makes the Urushi Lacquer Bathtub quite remarkable and rare.
Yukio Hashimoto describes the unique urushi texture as soft to the touch, naturally antibacterial, and not too slippery. It sounds just ideal for a warm respite.
Have you ever wanted to create a traditional Japanese bath within your own home? We’d love to hear your ideas and inspiration.
